Djo, the musical project of Stranger Things star Joe Keery, is enjoying a breakout moment on TikTok, landing on the charts with his song ‘End of Beginning.’

Joe Keery is best known for his role as Steve Harrington on Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, but his musical project Djo is breaking into the public eye, thanks to TikTok. His track “End of Beginning,” released in 2022 off his sophomore album, DECIDE, is now a viral sensation on the short-form video platform, leading to Djo hitting the charts in a big way.

Two years after its release, “End of Beginning” has reached No. 18 on the Spotify Global chart, No. 2 on US Viral 50, No. 5 on Viral 50 Global, and No. 7 on US Top 50, and No. 11 on the UK chart. Further, the song is debuting at No. 28 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, and No. 16 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart.

The song has surpassed 50 million streams — up 220% week over week — racking up 10.5 million streams alone in the past week. On TikTok, where the song initially took off, views are up to 454 million, with creations using the track up to 340,000.

Released in 2022, DECIDE is the follow-up to Djo’s 2019 debut, TWENTY TWENTY, a “guitar-forward” record and his first solo release since parting ways with his band, Chicago psychedelic rock project Post Animal. Better known for his acting chops, Joe Keery has been making music since his teen years, and spent over two years with Post Animal before making his solo debut as Djo.

Created with engineer Adam Thein during the pandemic, DECIDE saw a final recording session at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles before its release. Serving as an “aural history of Keery’s late 20s,” the synth-laden album features reflections on navigating growth and relationships in a world with rapidly developing technology at its center.
